Frequently Asked Questions

We love taking excellent care of our tribe!

Below you’ll find answers to questions about my creative process, our print materials, limited edition and custom prints, and press information.

If you have any questions that are not answered by the following, please be in touch via email.

Thank you!

What is your process in making photographs?

The image starts as a whisper, a tug at my insides when I’m immersed in nature, bathed in her majestic beauty.

The vision of the image may take several weeks or years to fully realize and create in just the right conditions, from just the right angle at just the right moment. This is where my relentless determination mixes with the magic of the present moment to serve the process.

Once the photograph is created, it along with its siblings, undergo the extensive selection process. This may take up to five times the amount of time it took to craft the image in the field, and it’s where 99.99% of images remain.

Limited-edition prints are incredibly special. They are hand-selected for their emotional and artistic resonance at the highest levels as well as needing to pass our exacting technical and aesthetic standards.

How do you print your photographs?

Once a photograph is designated a limited-edition image, I prepare it for the printing process by fine-tuning it for maximum emotional resonance in the print medium, staying true to the essence of the moment as I experienced it.

Meanwhile, aircrafts are being taken out of commission, and the aluminum that gives them wings gets reborn as recycled metal sheets awaiting printing.

Artist proofs are created in order to refine and check that the printing process is optimized for each image. This process of refinement, checking and printing continues until it exceeds our exacting standards and is ready for you.

When you order your limited-edition prints, each image is infused directly into the aluminum for a magical luminescence that is breathtaking. Colors are rich and vibrant. Detail and resolution are unsurpassed.

Museum and conservation prints are also offered, enabling the photograph to serve and inspire the wider world. (Click here to request these prints.)

Each print comes with an accompanying certificate of authenticity, which is signed, dated, numbered and twin-sealed along with your print.

Your print starts contributing to the environment in the photograph before it even reaches you by helping sustainability projects that do tangible, measurable good. We donate 50% of all profits to help each ecosystem or species in every photo. We also plant 1 tree for each square foot of print surface. That means you could be planting 10 to 43 trees per print. That’s 500 to 2,150 lbs of carbon removed from the atmosphere every year.

Why do we wait for your order before creating your prints and certificates of authenticity? This helps us keep our energy consumption (electricity, heating, cooling, fuel for shipping) incredibly low, which minimizes our environmental footprint and maximizes our ability to contribute to a healthy planet. Being as good to our Earth as humanly possible makes us incredibly joyful!

Your prints are lovingly shipped directly to your home, business or other space of your choice where they serve you and your tribe as wellsprings of joy, vibrancy, beauty, connection, adventure, peace, sustainability and contribution.

How are the prints made? What materials are used?

Each photograph is captured using solar-powered equipment from a place of deep reverence and respect for our Earth. Photographic prints are made by impregnating the image under the surface of recycled aircraft aluminum, giving it visual clarity and depth. Each one is hand-crafted by experts in a family-owned, LEED certified facility in the United States using a proprietary process that releases zero harmful chemicals into our atmosphere.

How are the prints sustainable?

Denesa Chan Photography is a carbon-neutral company, which produces photographic prints at a family-owned facility in the United States using a proprietary process which releases zero harmful chemicals into our atmosphere. The prints themselves are made from recycled metal, helping to reduce the amount of waste that goes into landfills. We also donate 50% of all profits to help every ecosystem or species in each print. In addition, a tree is planted in a protected forest for each square foot of the prints sold. Larger prints mean more trees planted. And that means more clean water, habitat for forest creatures, cleaner air and better regulation of the global climate for us all. Mmmm. It feels good to be part of the solutions!

What are recycled aircraft aluminum prints like?

Each image is infused directly into the aluminum for a deep luminescence. Colors are rich and vibrant. Detail and resolution are unsurpassed.

Prints will naturally have minute variations that add to their aesthetic nature. It’s also worth noting that computer monitors vary wildly in their color profiles. We take every precaution to ensure that your prints are of the highest standards. If you’re not thrilled with them, for any reason, let us know, and we’ll make sure you get a print that you love.

How long do recycled aircraft aluminum prints last?

In your space, your prints enjoy an image stability of up to 2 to 4 times traditional photo papers. This means that your limited-edition prints can be passed onto future generations to serve them with as much brilliance as they serve you and your tribe.

Impermanence is an aspect of our reality that’s been carefully considered with all of our offerings. Decades or centuries down the road when your print is ready to transform into something else, it can be recycled and continue to serve our Earth in new ways.

What is a certificate of authenticity?

It’s a numbered document signed by Denesa Chan that verifies that the accompanying print is:

  • an authentic Denesa Chan original work of photographic art
one of a limited-number of prints ever made of that image
  • a specific print number
  • We create a unique holographic tamper-evident seal for each print. Only two copies of this seal are ever made: One is affixed to the back of the print. The other is affixed to its certificate of authenticity. They share the same unique number and pattern, which has never been created before and will never be created again. So, when you see a limited-edition print with its certificate of authenticity, you know it’s the real deal.

What happens if I misplace my certificate of authenticity?

Accidents happen and are completely understandable. Please hold onto your certificate of authenticity because, out of respect for the rest of the Denesa Chan Photography collectors, it cannot be replaced.

What does ‘limited edition’ mean for these print runs?

It means that only 111 prints will ever be created per image (excluding artist proofs, which ensure that each print run meets our exacting standards). We deeply respect and appreciate our heart-centered art-loving tribe. That’s why once a print run is complete, and all 111 prints have been taken home, it will never again be offered as a print. We reserve the option to include it in books, magazines, cards, social media, our website and other non-fine-art-print creations at any time. This highlights the images’ unique expressive beauty and ensures that the image can continue to inspire the larger global community while respecting and celebrating our heart-centered art-loving collectors.

All images in this limited edition are certified with tamper-evident holographic seals accompanied by a certificate of authenticity with matching seal, which is hand signed by Denesa Chan and numbered, signifying that it is an original work of photographic art, captured by the artist, and one of a limited number of fine art prints created for this edition. The artist reserves the right to produce more proofs, museum copies and conservation copies of this image in this medium. She also reserves the right to produce this image in other mediums, provided they are not fine art prints. Denesa Chan retains the full copyright with all rights to the image completely reserved by the artist. Reproductions may not be made without prior written consent from Denesa Chan.

I noticed that prints numbered 1 through 100 are available here, yet there are 111 prints per run. How can I purchase a print numbered 101 through 111?

Prints numbered 1 through 100 are available on Denesa.com. The last 11 prints (numbered 101 through 111) are available via private auction only, and 100% of proceeds generated from these last 11 prints go entirely to sustainability projects. Every time you take home a print, you move us closer to these last 11, closer to being an even greater positive change-maker for our Earth and generations to come.

Is it possible to order a photo that is out of print?

It’s entirely possible to order a print that is no longer available on our website. The first 100 out of 111 prints are offered on Denesa.com. Once the first 100 are taken home, the last 11 prints are available via private auction only. 100% of proceeds generated from private auction go entirely to sustainability projects. Every time you take home a print, you move us closer to these last 11, closer to being an even greater positive change-maker for our Earth and generations to come.
